Berlin, Germany and Harare, Zimbabwe, October 24, 2014 – From October 27 to November 1, the first AMPION Venture Bus in 2014 will travel from Lagos to Abidjan.
On this years’ four Venture Buses AMPION will encourage all its 180 international and African Ampioneers to develop mobile applications either tackling Ebola directly or facilitating the work of international humanitarian and health institutions. Driving through 16 African countries the participants will meet leading experts and visit renowned innovation centers along the way.
Supported by leading ICT companies and joined by Africas most promising entrepreneurial talent, the AMPION Venture Buses should bring an invaluable boost to healthcare development on the African continent and yield e-health solutions that will additionally help in dealing with similar health crises in the future.
CEO selected MTN representative Zakaria Kone anticipates joining the Ampioneers in West Africa. The Venture Bus will be accompanied and covered by TV broadcasters Canal+ and Bloomberg TV Africa as well as regional TV channels such as BB24 from Benin.
The Venture Bus West Africa will visit the IDEA accelerator in Lagos, the American Cultural Center and Etrilabs in Cotonou, Woelab in Lomé, iSPace and Hub Accra in Accra, the Cape Coast University and Akendewa in Abidjan. For the grand final for the 2014 Venture Bus West Africa AMPION partners with one of Europe’s most prominent business schools, Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC), at La Maison des Chefs d’Entreprise (MCE) in Abidjan.
AMPION’s sponsor Microsoft will provide a package of free Software and Training to the winning startups after the final pitch. Additionally, the best startups developed on the AMPION Venture Buses will receive an extensive Fellowship Program including funding, mentorship and free office spaces, provided by AMPION partner Afrilabs, VC4 Africa and Mara Foundation.
