African Politics: General Elections in Kenya on 4th March

The upcoming general elections in Kenya, electing the President, Senators, County Governors, Members of Parliament, Civic Wards and Women County Representatives, are scheduled for the 4th March, 2013.

In August 2010, Kenyans voted for a new constitution in a referendum, which led several artists and activists to run peace rallies throughout the country – among them Emmanuel Jal and Julianiread here our interview from July 2011.

Year and again, since the 28th of February 2011 at 1 pm (EAT) Kenyans stand united and sing all three verses of the beautiful and powerful National Anthem. Again on the 28th of February 2013, Kenyans will demonstrate that there is more that unites than divides them. 1 pm, 1 nation, 1 people, 1 anthem, united in 1 prayer for 1 Kenya.

With a spotlight on the forthcoming elections, US President Barack Obama (who’s father was Kenyan) recently adressed the people of Kenya with the following message:

This year’s elections will be conducted peacefully. A new era is about to begin…
